Misdemeanor Sentencing Grids
Last Updated: 12/01/23

Key Concepts

  • The defendant must be sentenced under the law that was in effect at the time the defendant committed the misdemeanor offense.
  • Two misdemeanor sentencing grids are set forth below: one for offenses committed on or after December 1, 2013, and one for offenses committed before that date.

These misdemeanor grids do not govern the sentencing of DWI and other related offenses sentenced under G.S. 20-179. For DWI offenses, see the entry on Sentencing: DWI Punishment Charts.
